But Alex calls, five years later, out of the blue, and says, voice thin and just this side of desperate, “She said not to call you, you know.” Lena says nothing, only makes a vague humming noise intended to convey some sense of irony. “But she’s being dumb, and I’m not above begging.”
Lena’s jaw clenches. That’s rich, really, the idea that Kara, of all people, thinks herself above things.
“Look, Lena, I know…” Alex starts but then immediately stops, as if she’s realized that there are about fifty ways that sentence can end and precisely none of them are good. Instead, she says, “There’s just nobody else. And we—I really need your help.”

Summary
“Shall we team up?” He says. But he’s not talking to Nia, who opens her mouth to answer but doesn’t get the chance to because she’s interrupted by Lena’s little and relieved sigh, followed by a quick yes.
There’s a moment of silence where everyone seems to catch up to the idea. Kelly raises her eyebrows. Alex’s drink stops midway to her mouth. Nia is frowning, looking confused between the two. And Kara knows she’s got her mouth open- because she was about to ask Lena the same question, and she’s just as confused and disappointed as Nia looks right now.
