Summary
His eyes landed on Penelope, dancing in the arms of Arthur Fernsby of all people, looking absolutely miserable. Fernsby hands were lower in her back than they had any right to be, and there was nothing proper in the way he held her close to his body. Colin only noticed that he had started walking towards Pen when Violet stopped him.
“Dearest, what are you doing?” Her voice was sweet and full of concern, but her hand on his arm was firm. Colin looked at his mother as if she had lost her mind.
“Miss Featherington is clearly uncomfortable, should I not help her?”
“Oh Colin, they are to be wed in a week,” his world came crashing down. “I fear any help is too late by now.”
