“Kazimir!”
He froze, Kalinka started crying again, her hands reaching up and grabbing at the air.
“She’s not coming home, and we can’t visit her.” Mikhail hissed out through clenched teeth. “She’s gone, Kazimir...She died in labor…”
Died? Kazimir gave Kalinka his finger to grab onto, he started to rock her again. Died? That only happens in movies, and by someone with knife hands, not while bringing a child into the world. “But...when is she coming back?”
Mikhail sunk down. “Kazimir, she’s not coming back, ever...She was bleeding too much and she simply didn’t make it.”
“B-but, you can fix her can’t you?” He squeaked out feeling the tension in the air.
“Kazimir, leave me be…” Mikhail waved him away.
Kazimir frowned carrying Kalinka to the nursery, setting her down in her crib, sitting down on the soft floor, sticking his hand through the bars. Kalinka clenched onto his finger.
He stayed up all night with her, thinking about what the doctor said, even when Kalinka fell asleep, and the doctor went to bed. He laid on the floor trying his damned to understand that she couldn’t be fixed.Bookmarked by kiloLeader

This man was an idiot. A complete buffoon, and they sent him to try and rehabilitate Simon? Frankly, the Twisted Samurai was thoroughly insulted. They could have at least sent someone with more intelligence than the average goldfish. No, that wasn't quite fair. Even goldfish were known to learn and remember tricks, Simon couldn't say he had the same faith in regards to this man.
A story telling Simon's final year in prison, and more importantly, a story how one man's unwavering faith in a convicted criminal saved the innocent from a fate with the gallows.

Basically a real!Bobby au where Simon does get to meet and work with the real Bobby Fulbright. I do change a bit of canon around for this, so bear that in mind when reading.

Thanks to Fool Bright's (completely unsolicited) request, Simon is granted permission to attend the funeral of his stepmother—a funeral that happens to be held a twelve hour journey's east of Los Angeles, with none other than Fool Bright as his transporter.
Conversation, sleep and an abundance of licorice help to pass the majority of the trip. But when a flash thunderstorm halts Simon and Fulbright short of their destination, the two find themselves spending the night at a roadside motel and caught in the middle of an ordeal every bit as dark and stormy as the weather that brought them there.
