Summary
Cadie Alder wasn't anyone important. Merely a young orphan who has been living in Gotham City her whole life, and has had way too many run ins with danger—like anyone who lives there has. She had just turned twelve when one thing led to another and there she was, with a Green Lantern ring on her middle finger, standing in the middle of an alley at ungodly hours. Apparently, that was just a normal Thursday for Batman, who had witnessed the event and had decided that Cadie had the materials to be a young hero.

Gradually, the visitors fade from bright figures into faint wisps of light that grow ever more transparent until one day the best you get is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it flutter in your peripheral vision. The chill lingers, as does the chest-penetrating fear. You just can’t see where it’s coming from.

And, rather crucially, it wasn’t her man. On the bright side, the pajamas were definitely hers, and that was the end of the bright side.
