“I’m sorry I couldn’t be of help, Mrs. Wayne,” he does say, because Mom didn’t raise him feral, and makes a run for it.Also known as: everyone in the Wayne extended family learns that sometimes you just have to give family one more chance.

Martha didn't expect to wake up 10 years after she died, didn't expect to see her son (that dramatic void of cape was undeniably her son) at age 20 fighting crime in Gotham.
She certainly didn't expect herself to stay 30 and have to watch as Bruce adopted kid after kid over the years while being legally dead.
She couldn't revel in being a grandmother properly.

A presence behind her made her pause as she picked up her Lucky Strikes again.
"Smoking kills, you know." Her son grumbled. The Batman voice sounded like Thomas when he was trying to be silly.
She held back a chuckle.
He was taught that smoking was the worst from the get-go.
"So does stumbling into the wrong alley at night. Smokes ain't special." Martha wiggled the package to demonstrate her point.

"No powers?" Duke repeated, even more confused as he tried to recall everything he had ever heard about Ghosts. "So, you can't possess anyone or make the lights flicker? What about telekinesis and all the other scary stuff from the books and movies?""Those things can only be achieved by malicious spirits, dear," Martha told him. "We may be ghosts, but we aren't vengeful." They had made peace with their deaths, and even if they were still tied to the manor, it was exactly where they wanted to be.
Thomas chuckled. "Yes, that's more of our son's department," he quipped, using his fingers to mimic Batman's ears. "Vengeance is a young man's game, really."
