Mydei settled his weight down slow, the shift in pressure pulling a faint, lazy reaction from the half-mast beneath the covers. Not fully awake, but enough.
He rolled his hips forward, grinding down through the barrier of the blanket and thin fabric, catching the friction just right. A slow, steady drag. Enough to coax a response without waking him too fast.

Mydei stared back at him, thumb stroking unruly, slightly wet from tears, hair strands away from Phainon’s temple. Depending on his answer, there would be no turning back.
He had been deprived of affection and had fled it, taking refuge in violence. Now, he found out that he loved the thrill of being in Phainon’s arms as much as he loved the thrill of battle. Maybe, he would even learn to love it more.
Mydei almost dies again. As Hyacine is out of Okhema to assist at the Grove, a worried Phainon is left to tend to Mydei's wounds. A rare moment of intimacy, tenderness, and vulnerability between the two warriors during the flame-chase journey.
