Summary
Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)

“Well I hope we do more than sleep. But I think it should get first priority, at least.” Buck replied with a wink, and what did *that* mean? All Eddie could do was gape in response, his brain stuck as it refused to catch up, to understand what the hell was happening. And it wasn’t helped when - defying any conventions that they’d previously established in their friendship - Buck turned around and pulled back the covers, climbing into Eddie’s bed as though it was his own. As though this was something totally normal that they did all the time.
OR
The one where Eddie transfers Fire Houses after moving to El Paso, and ends up in a coma after a rescue went bad. But unlike Buck's coma dream experience, Eddie doesn't feel like he has anything to wake up for - and everything to stay asleep for. But that doesn't mean Buck is going to stop fighting for him.

Do you love him?
Before Buck’s mind can formulate the undeniable answer in words, a burning sensation engulfs his forearm. For a split, irrational second, he thinks maybe he’s having a heart attack — but no, it’s the wrong arm, and the pain is too low anyway. He races over to his kitchen sink, planning to douse the flames in cold water, but when he looks down, he almost does have a heart attack.
Because there are two black bands maybe half an inch apart circling his forearm just below his elbow. Two black bands that definitely weren’t there when he left Eddie’s house fifteen minutes earlier.
“No,” Buck whispers, staring down at his arm in something like horror. “Oh, no.”
Because there’s only one thing it could be.

"Well, of course curses are real," Buck started to defend.
"Evan," Eddie chastised.
"Look, all I'm saying is-"
"Buck," Eddie chastised again and this time Buck felt a rosy blush blooming on his cheeks. The name caught him so off guard that he allowed enough silence for Eddie to speak again, "Chris, mijo?"
Chris spoke up between his giggles, "Yeah, Dad?"
"Please tell me you still know curses aren't real," Eddie almost seemed to be pleading.

When Buck becomes a probationary firefighter at the 118, he doesn't mean to keep his family a secret. It's just hard to talk about his husband and son when Eddie's deployed overseas. At least if he can't talk to the 118 about Eddie and Chris, he can still talk to Eddie and Chris about the 118.

He’s tried everything to make it stop, has tried to distract himself in every way, but his brain seems dead set into making his life a living hell.
Eddie and Chris had been back in LA for all of ten minutes when he’d realised he’d fucked up spectacularly bad. It had hit him like a train, caught him unawares, and he has no idea how to stop.Or: Buck realises he's in love with Eddie, swears he'll never tell him, and gets stuck under a collapsed building with him, all in the span of one week.

“I know he has your back, even 800 miles away, Buck. Don’t freeze him out, okay?” Buck looked away from her. Eddie left. He had good reasons, but he left, and Buck felt abandoned all the same. Eddie had seen him at his worst, because he’d been in LA, practically breaking into his apartment just to check on him. Hard to do that two states away. Buck believed Eddie wanted to be there for him. But he couldn’t rely on him, not like he had before. Because eventually, Eddie would have a new partner. A new life. Buck knew how this worked.
Buck had left plenty of times before.
