Summary
"Hello," Lexi says with as much cheer as she can physically inject into her voice when it's 11:30 at night. "What can I get for you?"
There's silence for a moment.
"Uhh, hi," a man eventually stutters, his words patchy and grainy to her ears. "Yeah, uh, can I get- what the-? Eddie?! OW, what the hell are you-?"
The fog in her brain recedes slightly as she confusedly listens to the pained grunts, shuffling, and indignant, "get off me!"s from the car just outside, before it stops and only the grainy static can be heard from the speaker.
"...Sir?" Lexi tentatively asks.
A new man's voice rings through the speaker. "Oh, hi! Yeah, just give me a minute, looking at the menu."

Steve and Eddie road trip back to Hawkins before the kids start back at school. On the way there, five outsiders are left to decode their relationship, and one (albeit unwillingly) gets the whole story.

Sam, rolled his eyes at him before looking to Steve. "He's looking for what killed mom."
Steve paused his stirring again, looking back to the pan, taking a rattling breath in. Joyce wanted to help him out but she wasn't sure how to diffuse a situation like this. Or honestly what was even going on. "I needed you here. Both of you." His voice was almost a whisper, shoulders tensed by his ears like he was waiting for them to keep yelling.

Wayne is used to getting calls about Eddie, whether from the nice secretary from Hawkins High or Hopper. He doesn't get calls from the hospital. He definitely doesn't get calls from the hospital about people that aren't Eddie. He's surprised to get a call from the hospital about Steve Harrington.
AKA Steve gives the hospital a random number since his parents aren't home and Wayne comes to pick him up.
