“I don’t understand,” Gansey says.
“Yes,” says Blue, “that seems to be the crux of this whole—thing.”
“I don’t understand yet,” Gansey says. He squats beside the open ground, fingering the edge of the pit. Detritus pings onto the shined wood below them. “I thought this time… but no.”
“I don’t think this will help it make sense,” Blue says carefully. “What happened to you is quite different.”
“Because I came back?” Gansey says.
“Yes,” she replies. “Because you came back.”
“I need to understand,” Gansey says. “Blue.” He grabs her ankle clumsily; the stiff material of her galosh contorts into a frown.
what is a gansey if he has to learn the conviction he was meant to be born with?
