Summary
Dan has built a solid career for himself as a ghostwriter. He safely hides behind other people’s words, crafting their tales and pocketing the cash without any threat of notoriety. But lately he has been working on a book of his own, itching for a change.
Phil is an indie filmmaker who happened into some huge breaks over the last few years. He wants to use his influence to uplift queer stories for the screen, so he puts out an open call for story submissions. At his agent’s behest, Dan submits his story.

“Take my hand,” the strange man offers, unfazed. His voice still soft, his movements careful. His face is friendly, concerned, big eyes focused on Dan, eyebrows knit in worry. “Take my hand and I’ll pull you back in.”
“No!” It’s almost a sob. His voice comes out broken, shoulders shaking in the cold wind. He left his jacket inside when he left in a hurry, left to escape all the people talking and laughing and living.
“Stay where you are. Or I’ll let go.” He takes another look at the waves below, and even to his own ears it’s a hollow threat. His hands are curled around the iron in pure fear.
“No, you won’t,” the stranger says, still with this oh-so-soft voice.
“What do you mean I won’t?” Dan asks, affronted. “Don’t presume to know anything about me!”
The stranger shrugs. A small smile around the corner of his mouth. “You would have done it already, if you really wanted to.” His warm smile never wavers. “Now, take my hand.”

Summary
In the altruistic language of foreign tongue, and the flower lettering of love stories, it’s important to remember the context. In which Spencer Reid and you will fall in love under the circumstantial evidence that the two of you exchange in the language that is physical, no symbolism or hidden messages but instead an abysmal means to end to find each other in places you never expect. In the image of storytelling this is a Case Study In Body Language, and all of it’s idealist beliefs and intentions.
(tl;dr: spencer reid falls into drug addiction and darkness and you pull him out. and then shit gets weird.)

a/n: I meant for this to be a cute lil thanksgiving dinner fic and it just SPIRALED. I also meant for Travis to be kind of a redneck caricature and then he ended up being the sweetest lil hick this side of the Mississippi bc I literally just won’t tolerate anyone bullying Spencer in my fics. Also, we learn about one of reader’s fatal flaws and somehow it’s still cute?????? Also also, I got so emotional writing this. Ugh it’s so sweet it’s sickening like gtfoh. Also also also, I highly recommend putting on some country music to get in the ~spirit~ ok enjoy 🥰 (p.s. this is part of the TMSIDK verse but it can stand alone)

“What’s next?” Spencer asks softly, once you’re both cleaned up.
He missed a tiny spot; there’s a blue smudge right at the corner of his jaw, and you want to touch it, feel it under your fingertips, see if the skin is as soft as it looks, right there where the bone stretches it thin.
“Blanket fort,” you blurt out, before you can do anything embarrassing.
His eyes light up.
It really shouldn’t surprise you that Spencer and his engineering PhD make quick work of a pile of sheets and clothespins. You’re pretty sure that he could revolutionize the entire field of blanket fort construction, if left to his own devices, but you keep poking him when he gets lost in his head or starts muttering calculations to himself. The point is having fun.
The end result is a lot more Frank Lloyd Wright than any of your childhood creations, but Spencer looks absolutely gleeful, so. It’s the spirit of the thing.
