Mike’s eyelids appeared heavier. His stare seemed to be behind some type of blur, and Will couldn’t tell if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
“If that was true,” he said, voice low. “Then I wouldn’t even be worried about it in the first place.”

Will didn’t notice.

He didn’t stop running until he hit his father's chest. Thin arms stretched around him, welcoming him into an embrace. He felt fingers trail up his spine until they settled in his hair, dividing the strands into thick locks.
“Do you understand?” His father asked.
Will nodded into his chest, hiccuping through tears.
The moments that passed were spent in this position. Warm, comforting fatherhood. A guide through this unforgiving world. The hand that both slaps and cradles you. Breaths were short and uneven on one side, and relaxed on the other—victorious. Will’s head laid on his chest, and right beside it was a medal.
“Will?”
“Yes?”
“Don’t even ask to leave this tower again.”

However, one day, after 2 decades, Will heard it again—Vecna’s voice.
