On the good days, Dan can acknowledge that he’s doing well, in the grand scheme of things.
When he’s in the pit, though, the darkness swallows him whole. He scrambles around blindly but all he can feel are the walls that he can’t climb. It’s as true now as it was ten years ago: when he’s living through the worst of it, it’s nearly impossible for him to understand that as things get worse, so too will they get better.
But just like ten years ago, always, in that darkness, there’s Phil.

Summary
Phil is freezing. All he's ever known is the cold, until a shooting star crashes in the Land of Enternal Frost.
Phil's never seen anyone like Dan, and he shouldn't have. Everything he's ever been taught tells him that Dan can't be trusted, that he should've left him in that goddamn forest the day he'd fallen out of the sky and sprinted back home to the castle, to what his parents had decided was his path.
But Phil just can't quit Dan, can't stop the way he wants to be close to him, to bask in his warmth, to take what it seems the universe has gifted him. He knows if he's caught helping Dan, he might be stripped of his title, exiled from his kingdom, or worse, murdered.
But, if Dan's so terrible, then why does Phil finally feel so goddamn alive?

Summary
Maria and the rest of the ARK were evacuated before the G.U.N. raid. Shadow was locked aboard the ARK in a stasis pod for 50 years. Eggman found notes from his grandfather about the Eclipse Cannon, but not Shadow.
Instead we get Sonic literally tripping over Shadow's pod and releasing him by pure accident. What's a top secret government bio-engineered hedgehog to do when surrounded by a bunch of people who know nothing about who he is supposed to do?
