    Eddie stops him again, this time by holding his face. Steve feels Eddie’s thumb moving over his cheek, he feels the cool metal of his rings. He feels everything except what he needs.

    ‘I’ve never loved anything the way I love you, Steve Harrington,’ Eddie says, dark brown eyes moving between Steve’s own. ‘This isn’t the moment, sweetheart.’

    It’s not a rejection, but it’s not a kiss. Steve quietly cries, insides cut up on the broken shards of his stupid little heart and Eddie holds him, he holds him all night until they fall asleep together.

    Steve Harrington totally does not at all like metal music. He hasn’t liked it since he was 10, and he doesn’t like it now.
    And that’s ok, because nobody brings it up. Not until Eddie fucking Munson, deep, rich, chocolate eyes, beautiful smile and adorable laugh arrives. Not until he plays the hottest (as in fuck-me-until-I-break hottest) guitar solo ever.
    But it’s ok. Until it’s not. Because how can he sit in silence when Eddie claims Ozzy was a better leader of Black Sabbath than Dio. No. Just no. It all goes downhill (or maybe uphill) from there.

    The almost-fight breaks apart, the players given a penalty and they go off wherever for that, but Eddie is paying absolutely zero attention.
    He whirls around to Jeff.
    “YOU DIDN'T TELL ME IT COULD BE LIKE THIS!” Eddie pretty much screams. “I thought it was like basketball on ice, like no contact!”
    Jeff, Gareth, and Grant all burst into laughter.
    “Who was that?!” Eddie continues, throwing a hand out to the ice. “That was the most beautiful man I have ever seen!”
    Jeff can't breathe. He's holding his stomach.
    Eddie searches the ice wildly for Harrington. He now understands why people watch hockey. Hot men throwing their weight around!?!?! What's to not love?!

     

    Eddie gets dragged along to a hockey game by Jeff's request, and has a total change of heart about the sport.

    Steve reaches the phone on the last ring, panting into the receiver, slightly out of breath. “Hello?”

    He expects anyone from Robin to Dustin or one of the kids on the other side. Maybe Nancy or Eddie. He even entertains the thought of his parents being the ones calling, maybe to inform him that they’re staying away for another week–

    “Harrington?”

    He expects literally anyone except for the person he hears on the other end of the line.

    Eyebrows knitted together, Steve stares at the phone like it’s somehow playing a prank on him. “Gareth?”
