“My girlfriend, well…not really my girlfriend. We hooked up a few times and now she’s…uh…pregnant. Five months along. She said she doesn’t want the baby. She has never wanted kids. She found out too late to abort, she said. We were together in Peru, and I was actually planning to go to LA with some buddies of mine when she dropped the bombshell. I…"

If Buck could go back to all those weeks ago and tell himself that this idea would place at the top of the list of his monumentally stupid ideas, he would do it in a heartbeat. He would knock some sense into his own head, or let Maddie do it for him.
But here he is now, and a time machine, unfortunately, hasn’t been invented yet.
Here he is now, with Eddie boring into his eyes after that. After realizing he’s been caught red-handed. Except, the implication Eddie’s just made means he’s been sitting on this. And, holy hell.
Eddie breathes out, his chest puffing out noticeably.
“Not so quick to answer when the tables are turned, are you?”

Summary
After deciding to sue the department, Buck finds out he has a daughter that he didn't know about. Getting her in his care, he needs to learn how to be the dad she deserves while fighting to get his job back, mending relationships, and navigating the realization that his best friend might mean more to him than what he's been thinking this whole time.
Basically it's girl dad Buck with slowburn Buddie
(Ps I mainly chose lawsuit era so that the kids could be closer in age 🤷🏻 if you don't like lawsuit era fics I swear that it's not super relevant past a certain point in the fic. It's very buddie heavy and cute and silly for the most part)
