Summary
“What are we?” As the silence settles over them like a heavy pressure, Albedo wipes his eyes, trying to hold back his crying as he continues to face away from the captain.
Kaeya takes a long moment to think, his eyes glancing from Albedo to around the room. He sighs gently as he thinks back on their interactions. Truthfully, he didn’t want to have this conversation before gaining the courage alone. After a long, silent consideration, he answers.
“We are…” He swallows, feeling as if a lump is in his throat. He looks away for a moment, then back at Albedo. He goes silent, but his gaze is soft, almost asking for Albedo’s patience as he forms the words.
Instead of waiting, Albedo turns, looking up at Kaeya with a miserable expression. His face is flushed, filled with tears as he frowns. His hand grips the pencil tight enough that his knuckles are white.
“We are *what*?” he manages, taking a shaking breath. Kaeya takes a deep breath before finally speaking.
“We are something more than friends, right, Albedo? More like… lovers?” his voice is soft, feeling anxiety build as Albedo avoids eye contact and stays silent. *That’s what you wanted to hear, right?*
