Shiv dug her nails into the tops of her thighs, mimicking the red crescents he tattooed on them last night. She pushed, and squeezed, and forced the nails into her body, until she broke the skin, determined for her crescents to scar her legs, and for his to fade: the first step in reclaiming her body as her own.

Summary
Maybe, as Kendall had suggested: he might die without a purpose, and if that were to happen, Shiv had realised: maybe she would have blood on her hands. She suppressed a terrifying thought that maybe she already did. But she knew, and she knew Kendall knew, deep down, that he wouldn’t have led the company very well at all. There was a possibility that she had actually saved him from a fate worse than death.
At least with Tom piloting the plane, she had some sort of hold on power— the issue was that whilst he was in the cockpit, she was stuck in Economy, with a baby on the way. Shiv didn’t know yet whether being power-adjacent was worth permanently losing Kendall.
