Summary
Die Pathologie war eine eigene Welt. Das hatte Henny schon gespürt, als sie zum ersten Mal durch die schweren Metalltüren getreten war. Sie war mit den Fingern über den Tisch aus Edelstahl gefahren, hatte die Umrisse ihrer Instrumente nachgezeichnet, die Türen der Leichenschränke mit Bedacht geöffnet und geschlossen. Es war ein Ort für Geister, dieses kalte Labor.
In der Nacht, nachdem Roland Schürks Leiche gefunden wird, bekommt Henny unerwarteten Besuch in der Pathologie.

Dear Will Graham,
I adored your analysis of the Minnesota Shrike. How quickly you boxed him into a corner and revealed his hand! Surely the ladies on campus will sleep better knowing to avoid anyone that looks remotely like them with a father in tow. That, or perhaps you’ve inspired them all to dye their hair a poignant shade of blonde until the next killer comes along.
I wonder if your clever little mind would be able to catch someone like me, however; would you be interested in playing a game, Mr. Graham? I’ve grown bored as of late, and the city is not much to entertain these days. You can respond in your new column. Congratulations, by the way.

Nearly buried beneath the pungency of the cheap colognes mounted on a nearby display case is something totally incongruous: the sticky-sweet dough scent of the cinnamon pretzels sold down on the mall’s first level. He parts the suits with both hands, hangers squeaking on the bar, and looks down at the young girl squatting on the floor in the middle of the rack.
Or, Will loses his daughter at the mall. Hannibal returns her to him.
