She shakes her head. Looks you up and down. Silk still pinned up against your hips in her cool, dry hands. "You might fit into them, though."In which Jean tries on some very nice underwear, and Judit lets him know how pretty he looks.

Summary
Your responses, of course, had been similarly pleasant and short. Truthfully, you don’t know why Kim writes to you at all, after what a tool you were when you worked together in Martinaise. It was as if you, all by yourself, had written the guide on “How to be the Biggest Conceivable Dick to Your Partner”. The summary: you had insulted, interrupted, and disobeyed him, taking advantage of every shred of Kim’s patience while you recovered from your attempt at thorough self-immolation. You whined endlessly about your personal troubles. You begged for money and drugs from random people. The coup de grace: you had, in addition to your zero tact, zero situational awareness, which, in the end, got Kim shot – along with yourself and six other people. You and Kim survived; the others weren’t quite so lucky.
(In all fairness, you, shaky and detoxing, were barely cognizant of the whole mess, and of whatever you and Kim had that might have approached friendship at points – but that’s really no excuse).
These days, it’s just hard to believe a full year had already passed.

Summary
Kim already had her gun drawn, but she was facing the wrong direction, and wheeled around clumsily. The dim lights of the bar and the cramped wooden structure obscured by the pillar made it hard to quickly re-orientate herself and she frantically scanned the messy shapes, willing her eyes to catch up and readjust to the low light.
Then–suddenly–Harrier was there.

The first time Kabru sees him, it’s in a blur of flashing blue color. His eyes chase him across campus, finally settling on the person who the color belongs to. He almost thinks he’s imagined him, the way he sticks out like a sore thumb against the dulled colors of the college’s buildings.
This moment, though, only lasts seconds. The boy is laughing in a large group with his friends, his dusty blond hair haloed by the sun rising behind his head. Everyone around him has smiling, bright faces.
He may as well be miles away. Kabru turns around, and the color is gone.
Or, it takes a little wandering to find out that, maybe, you've been going in the wrong direction the whole time.
