Hangman knew that Rooster was the right one to go on the mission, he’s known it from the start, even though his actions and words didn’t portray it. He knew it from the moment he saw Rooster and Maverick look at each other along with all the talks he’s overheard. Hangman also knew that despite Rooster being the right choice, Rooster hadn’t been ready, at least in the beginning. That is why Hangman pushed and got under Roosters skin, he needed Rooster to be ready. Hangman needs Rooster to come home.

He’s in his small kitchen, phone tucked against his shoulder, Ice’s voice in his ear. “You never mentioned he had a girl,” he adds, tone accusatory, “Mary. Have you met her?”
“Mary Elizabeth,” he corrects. “She came to visit while we were at Norfolk. Sweet girl.”
“I gotta say, I’m surprised I made the guest list,” Maverick says with a huff of laughter.

Maverick invited Iceman into the bathroom to blow him, that’s a fact. It’s also a fact that Maverick had clearly been giving him signs all night, comments with more than a sprinkle of a sexual innuendo and lascivious looks through his half-lidded eyes, but none of those really meant that Maverick had more than a quick blowjob in mind.
