Something on the edge of desperation surged in his eyes, making Liam’s chest cave with his stubbornly soft plea.
“Don’t make me say it.”

Liam slinks out of Sinema at the three-minute mark. He’s a stranger from far away; distressed band tee, distressed jeans, distressed face. He looks like he’s trying to forget himself. Spots Theo’s truck the moment he slips past the doors—he’d texted Liam: parked illegally for you, got left on read—head downturned, bangs flopping over his face as he walks blindly down the sidewalk. His shoelaces trail on the ground behind his sneakers, dragging his feet like he’s got stones weighing down his shoes.
He’s a little strange up close, too. Collapses in the passenger seat and greets Theo like a dry sponge—wrung out, hollow, listless. Doesn’t humor Theo’s wisecrack about getting kicked out for not meeting the height requirement. Not even a scowl. Sorta unLiam of him.
“I think this is the part where you tell me where we’re going,” Theo says.

Theo just looks at him, hair disheveled, face blank. "You keep saying that," he says slowly, sitting up in the bed. A lock of hair falls into his face. "I don't think it means what you think it means."
Liam and Theo figure things out, together. They're really, really, really bad at it. (Set during and after 6B)
