Summary
James “Bucky” Barnes is many things; a hard working dockhand, a friend, a flirt. Most of all, however, he is a bullheaded son of a gun who is going to make Steve lose his goddamn mind. The man has a multitude of worries, not the least of which being rent, and yet all he can think about is taking girls out dancing. It’s all he ever thinks about, honestly, and it’s grating on Steve’s nerves for reasons he doesn’t quite want to admit because, if he admits it, then he runs the risk of it getting out. No, his little secret is safely kept behind years and years of efforts to ignore it. No one knows and no one will know; it’s better this way. This way, he gets to keep Bucky around.
“Steve, come on!” Bucky waves a hand in front of Steve’s face, trying to get him to pay attention to whatever harebrained scheme he has lined up to trick a girl into dancing with Steve. “Listen to me, pal, or else you’re never gonna get a girl to dance with you tonight.”
“No girl’s danced with me yet and I don’t see that changing any time in the near future, Bucky," Steve snaps back.

Summary
Ever since he moved in with Steve and Bucky, Sam has been living on the edge, facing the unexpected at all hours of the day on a regular basis. He has to wrangle in his emotions for the two supersoldiers all while maintaining a cheery expression. The two are considerate of their living situation, most of the time. Sometimes he’ll come home to a bit too much skin showing on the couch that he bought but overall, they manage well. This, though, this is so far out of left field that he has to physically take a step back as he tries to wrap his mind around it.
“What?” Sam’s looking between Steve and Bucky like they both just grew a second head. Honestly, that would be less surprising- and definitely less confusing- than what Steve had just asked him.
“Would you want to join us?”

It started with a whisper. Just a simple one, shared between the two of them as their friends debated what restaurant to go to after the movie they had just watched. That one whisper, it’s power unmatched, pulled Sam and Bucky away from their friends, their excuses pouring from their mouths like waterfalls. They left the group, the two of them rushing to their shared apartment. Their shared empty apartment.
What was that oh, so powerful whisper?

Summary
It’s after midnight, the moon is hanging pretty in the star-studded sky, and Bucky is sitting on the fire escape outside the apartment he recently started sharing with Sam. The air is chilly, the perfect temperature for a fall night in D.C. He contemplates spending the night out here with the blanket being the stars above him and the mattress the metal bars of the fire escape. It reminds him of his time stalking his targets and perhaps it should make him uncomfortable-- god knows he hates being reminded of that time-- but it gives him a sense of familiarity, of normalcy despite how far from normal it really is. It allows him to sit back and just focus on the elements of his surroundings rather than the thoughts in his head. And right now, he really needs that release from his thoughts.

Summary
Sam stole another glance at Bucky as he used the bottom of his shirt to wipe sweat from his brow. Sam’s gaze fell on his toned, muscular body before he felt his own skin flush warm. He swallowed hard and reminded himself that he was there to help and time of was of the essence, not to ogle Steve’s old ass friend.
Bucky noticed Sam right away as the vehicles arrived. He wasn’t surprised that Steve’s friend would be out helping. He seemed like the type of man that would. He was a lot like their mutual friend in that way. He intrigued Bucky, just from the few but interesting interactions that had had. If Steve liked he guy and trusted him, Bucky could, too.
