At exactly 10.30 on Friday nights, Miyaji will arrive in exactly the same jacket and ripped jeans, and order exactly the same thing – an apple and cranberry float – and sit in exactly the same booth with an open laptop and scattered textbooks.
At exactly 10.30 p.m. on Friday nights, Hayama will abandon any remaining grief the week has given him and convince himself that he doesn’t spend the shift waiting for exactly this moment. He never really succeeds, but that doesn’t stop him from trying.
Hayama is oblivious and Miyaji is clumsy, which makes for very awkward confessions.
