“So… how did you know you liked boys?” Mike randomly asks Will one afternoon.
“How did I what?” Will swivels his head toward Mike, who’s looking back at him expectantly over the top of his comic book. He’s got on that thinking-face he does— the one that tells Will that Mike has definitely been staring at him for the past ten minutes minimum, trying to wrap his brain around some idea or another, like he’s working out a particularly difficult puzzle.
“Like, what do you like about them? Oh, come on, don’t look at me like that,” he complains, and Will assumes he must be making a face somewhere between skeptical and bewildered. “We never talk about it. Why is it boys for you?”

Will climbs aboard, grabbing the dirty, splintered oars from their holds. He rows swiftly toward the middle of the lake— toward the gate— without hesitation. Now is not the time to hesitate. No; that was this morning, when he packed his bag. That was last night, when he memorized the bedtime routines of his housemates. That was last week, when the plan first formed in his mind. Not now. Now, he’s sure.
He doesn’t pause as he sees a rustling in the trees, nor when Mike’s form comes stumbling out. He doesn’t even pause as he calls out Will’s name.

Summary
When Max is sent away for a month for advanced out of state hospital treatment, Lucas is left with way too much time and way too many feelings. So when he notices the unresolved tension simmering between Will and Mike, he decides to do something about it. But before he can even process what that truly entails, he’s already knee deep in secrets, feelings, and “friendships” that are a lot more complicated than he signed up for.
OR: What starts as a distraction from missing Max turns into the most complicated plan of Lucas’s life as he shifts from helping Will get over Mike to setting them up together (because he’s the bestest, most supportive friend ever, obviously!)

Summary
Mike hates Valentine’s Day. It was fun as kids, when teachers would make every student decorate a little shoe box with pink and red heart stickers, that by the end of the day would be filled with cheesy Valentines and sweets.
But this isn’t kindergarten anymore— there are no school-enforced rules that his classmates have to give him a Valentine. He has to earn them. And he hasn’t.

Mike is (not) upset that he’s the only one of his friends that hasn’t received a Valentine. That is, until something just so happens to fall out of his locker the next day.
