The road wasn’t exactly narrow, but this crazy was standing right in the middle of it. He couldn’t get around unless he wanted to hit the person, the cliff face, or drive the car off the mountain.
“Oh, for the-” Rikuo started to unbuckle his seatbelt “They must be drunk.”
“Wait, don’t go out.” Maki said, suddenly awake “This is too weird. What if it’s a trap?”
“Why…would it be a trap?”
“This is the most common way to get up to the mountain towns. Lots of younger people come through here on the way back from the city. People disappear up here, Nura.”
“It’ll be fine,” he assured her.
“Trust me.”

Sokka did not expect to find an Airbender while fishing with his sister. He did not expect a Fire Nation ship to crash into their village, demanding the Avatar—who just so happened to be the aforementioned Airbender. And he did not expect a hot, sword-wielding, wise-cracking Firebender to not only help them hijack the ship, but then declare that he would be the Avatar’s teacher.
But when did anything ever go the way Sokka expected it to?
(OR: Within minutes of its formation, the Gaang encounters a Zuko who has long since begun working against Ozai. This has consequences for just about everyone.)

Summary

They come with the mindset of taking advantage of these "children" to get what they want, but forget that they are all war heroes for good reason. They're going to have to learn how to live in this new reality before any peace can be reached, but Zuko and friends are going to help.
