“Johanna, look at me,” Haymitch says. She does. There are dark circles under his eyes and a permanent strain shadowing his face. The lines across his forehead are those of a much older man, but for once—oddly enough given all the stress these past few days—he looks his real age behind the eyes. It occurs to her that he must be younger than her father would be by now, if he were still here. Not by much, just a few years, but still. “You did everything right,” he tells her. “The plan was always to prioritize Katniss, get her out, and you did that. You stuck to that plan.”
