The Wizard is exposed as a fraud and as Elphaba's father.
Morrible, outraged at her promotion to enemy of Oz, strikes out at Elphaba. Only for Glinda to leap in front of her and take the blow.
Elphaba is saved, but Glinda is gone.
Years go by and Elphaba rebuilds Oz while trying to capture Morrible the Horrible.
Years go by until a house lands on her sister and with it the arrival of two strangers.
One of whom may turn out not to be such a stranger.

After "One Short Day", Elphaba found out the truth about the Wizard. He was a fraud! And he wanted to use her magic to hold onto his power.
And Elphaba doesn't want any part of it.
So Glinda and Elphaba make their escape.
But the guards are closing in. Glinda decides to give Elphaba time to flee.
“But Glinda,” Elphaba pleaded.
“Go! Just go! I’ll find you,” Glinda through over her shoulder, as she faced the door the guards were breaking through.
Elphaba flew off on her broom.
They just don’t know how that promise gets twisted when Morrible realizes what Glinda is.
And uses her to hunt Elphaba down.

A groan of pain ripped through the air as the girl started to gain more lucidity. One of the men moved an inch towards her, but Zoey was quicker. She materialized in a cloud of pink smoke between him and the girl. She could smell his sweat, the tobacco on his tongue.
“Uh-uh uh. Don’t touch her.” At this, the chains rattled, the girl straining to see. Zoey tsked, cooed at the man. “Is he bothering you, sweetheart?” The affirmative noise she got in return was enough for Zoey.

Melinda Morrible took pride in being a person who was not easily rattled. She’d trained herself to expect the unexpected, so she would be better able to cope with any situation life might throw at her (and working with Oscar, situations were thrown at her often). But she’d never anticipated a situation like this before: a nineteen year old girl with light blonde hair, a grating high pitched voice…and Melinda’s dark eyes.
Later, she would learn Galinda Upland had her magic too: a girl who happened to have the same last name as Larena. Who was, in all probability, Larena’s daughter.
Or: Madame Morrible is Galinda’s other parent. She doesn’t realize this until Galinda’s first day at Shiz. It changes quite a bit.

I’m always stuck in my brain, and there’s no way out. I feel everything, like I'm on the verge of an explosion or combustion every waking moment. I’m living in that space where you get a second wind before you collapse. That's every single moment and day of my life.
Marcus used to be my person to help. I helped him, because I needed to be around people. If Marcus was around me, and so were my friends, I could almost be normal. No one needs me anymore. He’s getting better. My friends found a better version of me.
