"And when you do," Philippe interrupts smoothly, as if Corbeau had not opened his mouth at all. "I'm going to be there. And I will make you wish you'd never done any of this shit. You will wish you'd never even heard my name. And then, Monsieur Corbeau, I'm going to kill you."
That hangs in the air for a long moment. The silence is tense, uncomfortable. Corbeau does not flinch, and does not look away from Philippe. He's capable of looking after himself. He's not ashamed to admit the knife that he keeps in his pocket has seen its fair share of use - no killings, of course, he wasn't sloppy. But he'd defended himself before and would again if he had to. He wasn't sure why Philippe was his preferred target for this kind of needling. Other gang leaders came and went, and he had toppled several shamefully run little organizations that had tried to pop up in his adopted city before they had ever really gotten themselves situated. But Philippe? Something about sticking it to him delighted him.
"Ah, but first you have to catch me."
How Corbeau came to take leadership of the Rust Syndicate by mutual agreement.

It was not the expected outcome from the meeting to decide if he should remain in relic containment or be allowed to work, and there was something that just screamed that Mikell had suggested this, something to deny him the peace of being alone at any given time. He hasn’t met the Agent being assigned to him, but there’s two things he knows for certain.
The first is that the man has been chosen for his absolute loyalty to the Foundation, someone who would die for them if that was what is needed of him.
