Summary
“Your dad wants to talk to you,” Hawkeye says, the receiver in his hand outstretched.
“Do I have to?”
Erin’s voice lies just on the edge of a whine. It reminds Hawkeye of the last time they met, when Peg had to wheedle her to wash up before lunch so she wouldn’t track mud in the house. He wants to say yes. He thinks he should say yes. BJ would kill him if he knew he didn’t say yes.
“I can’t make you do anything,” he settles on.ᚒ
In 1966, 14-year-old Erin Hunnicutt runs away. The only place she can think to go is to her semi-estranged, semi-uncle Hawkeye. She wishes she’d packed warmer. -

Kellye’s eyes have gone wide. “I’m not sure it’s your kind of story, Major.”ᚒ
The nurses have gotten their hands on a lesbian pulp novel. It makes its way around, chapter by chapter. -

Summary
If anything good comes into the Swamp, Hawkeye assumes BJ will share. Japanese candy, the latest whirligig from one of the local merchants, even the trashy paperbacks he swears he doesn't read keep ending up on Hawk's pillow with creases in the spine.
Of course, there are things BJ doesn't tell him. But the letter practically falls into his lap. It would be silly, really, to not read it. -
