Summary

He hears a huff of laughter, and a hand brushes his bangs away from his eyes. “You should rest,” Mike murmurs.
“I’m not tired,” says Will, and it’s true. He’d slept away the evening that blended into the night, and with a full stomach and a somewhat better leg, he’s feeling more like he can stay up a little longer.
“Your eyes are shut,” Mike protests, and Will takes the comment as a way to open them back up, though he might as well shut them again from how the sight completely takes the breath out of him.
Mike’s looking down at him, eyes shining in the moonlight, cheeks tinged pink. There’s something familiar in his face, something Will hasn’t seen in years. Since…since he was thirteen, seeing visions of the Upside Down and a shadow hovering above it all. “God, I was so worried when we got that call.”

Will gets injured and there's only one person who can possibly offer him comfort. Only, he can't exactly ask for what he wants.

Summary
“You think I couldn’t figure it out? As soon as you mentioned your crush, I knew. God, it all made sense then.” He took a step closer to Will. Another, and another, until their faces are only inches apart. “Why you always clung to me, why you treated me differently compared to the rest of the party, why you let me see and keep your drawings. Only me.”
Will can’t help but smile, in relief and in fondness, all his anger dissipating. Now it all feels obvious, when Mike says it aloud. He’s always cared for him in a special way, a way that reflects into his life, even after so many years. Even after their fallouts.
“It’s funny now that I mention it, especially since I’d rather die than ever be with you romantically.”
His smile fades, and Mike truly does look like a monster. The angles of his face fall symmetrically, so similar to Henry.
Henry.
Oh.
Or; A finale rewrite with Byler, the Party, and a little bit of fantasy.

Evangeline frowned. She looked down at the ground, a light level of snow coating the road. “Thank you,” she said softly. Jacks didn’t say anything, so she awkwardly continued. “I need to head back home.”
“Okay.” Jacks didn’t move.
She rocked on her heels before turning around and beginning her journey yet again. The crunch of snow sounded behind her, and she turned around yet again. “What are you doing?”
He raised a brow. “I’m walking you home.”
“More like stalking me. Typically, when you walk someone home, you stay beside them, not behind.”
Jacks sighed but only moved next to her. “Better?”

The ticking of a clock. It’s not like the clock in the basement at Mike’s, more like an older one. He can’t place the exact clock until he sees it, stuck in the wall to his right.
The chime echoes and fades away, but only because Dustin is looking at him with a worried expression, not unlike Lucas’s from the day before.
“You zoned out there for a second. You good?”
“Yea, it’s just…” Will peers over at the wall again, and feels sick to his stomach when he doesn’t see it. “You didn’t see that?” Didn’t hear it?
“Uh,” Dustin turns around to follow Will’s gaze. “No?”

El was laughing, almost doubled over and Dustin and Lucas were rubbing each others backs and drying the fake tears off of their faces, acting like a pair of proud parents.

“Mike,” Will had said to him, voice calm despite how hard it was for him to even make a sound. He didn’t try to sit up, but Mike wasn’t sure he could, even if he wanted to. “I need you to kill me.”
Mike shook his head, holding Will closer to his chest.
“Mike, please.” Will pleaded, closing his eyes against the light, or perhaps it was too much effort to keep them open. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t,” Mike whispered, surprised at how vulnerable he sounded, at the shake and utter defeat in his voice. “You won’t kill me, Will. Because we’re the same. We can’t hurt each other, even at the end of the world.”

It's been three years since the start of the zombie apocalypse and Mike is finally returning home. He discovers that not only is he not the sole survivor of Hawkins, but that his friends and sister are alive, too. As he begins to reconnect with them, the tension between them begins to increase, and Mike doesn't know how long he can stay with them.
Because while some of the group are more than happy to have him around, others don't like the company he keeps...

She checks again, and yeah, Will is holding a stuffed bear, not a cat. The beloved Tiggy stays firmly attached to his bag, so they aren’t playing with tigers, either.
“So they go back down the mountain, and now all the village people are asking them about the crystal, and Rory is sad thinking they didn’t get it that whole time, but then–”
“Meow. Meow,” Will declares, removing the teddy from the dinosaur’s back and making it do some sort of interpretive dance.

Summary
The thing was, Will loved Mike. He had always loved Mike. Loving Mike felt less like a choice and more like gravity. Something he’d learned to live with, something constant and unyielding, even when he’d tried, desperately, to move on.
“Your… your what?” Will managed finally. His voice sounded distant to his own ears, thin and unsure.
Mike swallowed. “My boyfriend,” he repeated, a little quieter this time, like maybe if he said it softly enough, it wouldn’t sound as insane. “I need you to be my boyfriend."

After coming out, Mike asks Will to pretend to be his boyfriend for a trip home to Hawkins. It seems simple enough.
Except pretending is harder when you’ve already been in love for years.
