Summary
The doctors had warned her against doing things like coughing, as if she could fucking control that, because it would aggravate the surgery site. Well, she's aggravated, all right, and not just because her ripped open and sewn back together chest won't let her catch a break. She hasn't slept a full night since waking up in the hospital; even drugged to hell, nightmares of the Fisher King permeated her unconsciousness. On top of that, she's sick constantly, which in turn only causes her more pain. Hence the bathroom floor.
Post-surgery recovery has left Elle with a string of rough nights. So, JJ does the only logical thing - she helps Elle cut her hair.

Elle smiles, expression shifting in kind, and a little too knowing. "Would you have answered?"
Yes, of course I would have, JJ thinks, but deep down, she knows it's a lie. She would have frozen at the name on her screen, and not known how to say "I'm sorry," without it sounding like "I love you."
JJ briefly bites to her bottom lip, and does what she should have done the first day she met Elle Greenaway.
