Summary
Charlier looked at Marsh like he was insane. “The Tekiels are hosting a ball this week to celebrate the anniversary,” Marsh explained. “Nearly every noble in Luthadel is invited. With that many people milling about, it’ll be easy to slip away to search Lord Tekiel’s study.”
“Are you insane?” Charlier said, apparently wanting to confirm his suspicion. “Nearly every noble, yes, but they were invited! Even if I had the resources to forge an invitation, they would see I’m not on the guest list! And even if I did get in, do you seriously believe I would be able to sneak into Lord Tekiel’s study undetected?”
“No,” Marsh said. “But you don’t have to. I was invited. I’ll go.”
Charlier’s mouth closed with a snap. “I can’t ask you to do that,” he said after a moment.
“Then it’s a good thing I’m going to do it regardless.”
An infiltration was the last task Marsh took on for the rebellion - and as it happens, it was also the first.

“Enough,” the prelan ordered. He leaned closer, voice dropping. “Tell me, how long did you think your scheme could last? How long did you think you could survive in the shadow of nobility?”

Summary
“I will be able to assist the kandra after they regain their spikes. All I need is for you to get them started on the process.” Sazed turned to face him. “Thank you, my friend. I shall be around if you have need of me.”
With that, he disappeared, leaving a faint afterimage in Marsh’s vision that quickly faded.
Marsh took a deep breath, trying to clear his tired mind. The air was so fresh and clean that it hurt his lungs. He held that breath for a moment, savoring the burn of it, before launching off the hillside in a pewter-fueled leap.
-
