Summary
The land is scarred by fire, patches of brush still smouldering under the ashes. Tommy takes in the ruined mountainside with a professional detachment. Making note of potential danger zones as he moves through the area ahead of the BAER team, and keeps climbing. Evan’s radio went silent not long after a sudden shift in the wind separated him from where the rest of the 118 were engaged in on-the-ground suppression efforts. His GPS died about thirty minutes later farther up the mountain.
That was twenty-eight hours ago, and there’s been no sign of life since.
Evan died fighting a wildfire. Tommy's going to bring him back.

Summary
The day was bright and clear, harsh winter at last yielding to the softness of spring on the afternoon Buck met his husband-to-be. He was walking through the wood near his home, gathering strawberries with his friend’s son, Christopher, when they saw The Bear.
It was a huge, hulking creature, easily twice the size of a regular brown bear. But when Buck laid eyes on him and moved to place himself between the animal and Christopher, he did so out of caution, not fear. For The Bear’s eyes were intelligent and kind, and when he opened his mighty jaws and began to speak, Buck could not be surprised that such a magnificent beast knew the tongue of man.
Buck and Tommy in a fairy tale romance, with a couple of twists.

Summary
Buck is exhausted. He’s on the tail end of a 48 that’s turned into a 52 after a massive pileup on the 5 and his 24 off got switched to a 12 because Maxwell’s wife is in labor, leaving A Shift short, but between finishing up at the scene and the drive back to his new place that 12 is looking more like 6.
Buck groans rubbing his forehead, that’s way too many numbers.
He’s tired, is the point. Which explains the paranoia and why he could swear that someone is watching him.
There's something on the moon, and it's reaching out.

Summary
Harsh breaths, the crack of dried twigs under sure footsteps, and the whisper of cloth are the only sounds keeping Buck company as he treks through the undergrowth. The trees grow tall and close in this section of the woods, their canopy dense, shutting out the night sky. He’s enclosed in a cocoon without so much as the buzz of an insect to break the illusion of solitude since leaving the path. Hitching his bag higher he continues on his way and the trees watch him go.

Summary
This is a terrible idea, Tommy’s hands clench reflexively on the steering wheel and he briefly contemplates pulling out of the driveway to take another lap around the block, momentarily delaying the inevitable. Staring out the windshield, the walk to their front door seems longer than usual, an insurmountable distance.
A plaintive ‘mew’ from the backseat steels his resolve. Tommy looks back at the cat carrier, sitting innocuously on the seat and the tiny, furred face pressed close to the wire door.
