Summary
"'It’s not an issue.' John shrugs, but he sees the slight wince that crosses his face, even with just the lamp illuminating the room. 'I’ve dealt with it before.'
'I know you have.' His voice is quiet. 'But you don’t have to.'
John turns to look at him, then. His eyes, usually bright and direct as a bolt of lightning, look so much more clouded now, weighed down by pain and exhaustion. They soften, just slightly, when their gazes meet. 'I…' He trails off. It’s unlike John to not know what to say. 'Would you… want to assist?'
He could laugh, at the way John’s phrasing it. As though it’s for his benefit. But this is the first time, of all the many nights John’s come home like this, that he’s accepted help. It means even more that he’s asking for it first, in his own way. He’s not sure what changed, but he doesn’t want to ask, in case that makes him reject it again. 'Yeah. I would.'"

Summary
"They’d lost contact with him exactly four minutes and seventeen seconds after he had entered. Nothing else had even happened then, not that they could tell- no screams, no changes in signals, nothing but a slightly increased heartbeat. Just a burst of static, and the communication was gone. He was *gone.*
Losing the second-in-command of the whole unit wasn't enough to deem the mission a failure, apparently.
It had been one day since he’d finally been told, in no uncertain terms, to stop asking for authorization for a rescue mission, because no such authorization would ever come. That it didn’t matter, because the mission was a success, and that one small failure wasn’t enough of a reason to go pulling the plug on the whole thing. That *he* didn’t matter.
The anger, the sheer injustice of it, burns a hole in his stomach. Even when they’d first lost contact, he’d begged the supervisors and the General to let him go in after him, to do *something* to figure out where he was or what happened to him.
They’d refused then, too.
Which is why, now, he’s here."

Summary
(Almost as though the thought summons it, there is a sudden sound from behind him. A loud, languid wolf-whistle. In another time, another world, that noise in that voice would have been a teasing flirtation, something he’d laugh at. Here and now, though, he has to fight back a full-body shudder.
With as much dignity as he can muster, he turns, meeting its eyes.
Its eyes that he remembers as dark brown, that now shine an eerie electric green.
“Hey there, Johnny,” the thing that was once Wilbur Cross says, face curling in a pleased sneer, dragging its gaze up from where it had clearly been eyeing. “How’s it goin’?”
That voice. It’s Wilbur’s accent, but stretched and warped and slicked over, a dripping mockery of what it once was. As though it’s imitating what it believes speech to sound like rather than speaking for itself.)

(Post s4ep04: The Night Market
Title from Save Your Tears by the Weeknd bc I’m still thinking about Harvey saying it’s their song)
“Guillermo pushed past her, deliberately ignoring eye contact with Nandor, and went into his room. He had one new message from Freddie, who he’d had to cut off mid-‘I love you’ to go the stupid market where Nandor had… actually, he wasn’t really sure what Nandor was trying to do.
Oh well. He’d respond in the morning. Right now, he had to change, and probably get an ice pack for his shoulder, which he’d hurt when Nandor pushed him into a fucking bus. Because that was a totally normal thing to do.He sat on his bed and shrugged off his coat, turning to place it on his chair when he bumped directly into Nandor. Great.
‘This room is so tiny, Guillermo,’ Nandor complained, attempting to step past him. Guillermo just stared at him. The fact that he’d only slapped Nandor one time was enough to merit him an award, he thought.”

Summary
It has been 12 days since John MacNamara turned 18.
The sun shines through the stained glass fixture hanging down from the peg above the window, the very same one granting John the view to his driveway, where his father is laying down the backseat of their beaten up Bobcat to pack in John’s already overstuffed travel bag.

John MacNamara, his time meeting one Wilbur Cross, his experience with the United States military and eventual move to the branch P.E.I.P, and everything that happens between.

Summary
Aliquis. a.li.kwis. Latin for someone, anyone.
In another world, perhaps Dakkar raced to save his father first during that fateful night. In another world, perhaps Kal was left to heal Chazira, and failed in that task. In another world, Kal was blamed for the Blazing World’s Queen dying by its King, while its Prince grieved that loss with those he loved who remained.
A different path, chosen. What will come of it? Let's turn the page.
