Being stuck to the whims of the Datastream, jumping from universe to universe all in the effort to chase L.O.O.T. Shards and never interacting with non-NPCs does eventually take a toll on one's psyche--even if Martyn would prefer to not admit that to himself.
Begging an NPC to help take him out of his thoughts will surly fix him.
