1. Edwin Payne spent 7 decades in hell
2. Edwin Payne spent the majority of those years being ripped apart by a spider demon meade of doll heads
3. On Tuesday 12 March, 2024, the Dead Boy Detectives investigated an old railway station on the outskirts of York which was home to a nest of unnaturally fast and magical spiders being bred by a local mage for unknown purposes.
4. Approximately 5 minutes after entering the nest, Edwin Payne began to experience the following symptoms: shortness of breath, blurred vision, shaking hands, a curious sensation as if something very large was trying to crack ribs he does not have by squeezing him in its fist.In which Edwin's trauma catches up with him and he finds the whole thing quite tedious.

Suddenly, there was a blast of light where Edwin was sitting.
Charles dropped the comic to look at his friend, but Edwin was gone. In his place was a ball that glowed white, with some blue undertones reflecting off the surface.
“Edwin!?” Charles threw the comic and ran over to the desk. “Edwin!”
He picked up the little glowing ball in his hands and assessed it. It was odd – Charles could feel the orb, smooth like a perfect stone, and… warm. He had not felt temperature in over a year, and the orb was distinctly radiating warmth.
“Edwin?” His voice was soft now. “Is that… you?”

“No, Eds, wait, wait. That came out all wrong.” And Charles clutches Edwin’s hand tighter, so Edwin clutches back, taking strange comfort in the curve of Charles’s fingers, the ridge of his knuckles. Terrain that is somehow more familiar to Edwin than the paths he’s carved through Hell. “What I meant is, I’m not ever gonna be, like, in love with you. Romantically. I just—” His inhale is a juttering scrape of breath excavated from deep inside, and Edwin feels it as though it is his lungs that draw it in. “I love you, Edwin. I’ve always loved you. And after you confessed in Hell, I thought—well, I thought what I felt for you had to change. But it didn’t, and it won’t. I’m never gonna have a romantic notion towards anyone in the entire world, and I love you, and it’d be aces to kiss you.”
