“There’s this saying between Jujutsu sorcerers," Fushiguro says. "Don’t let anyone get close enough to make leaving an echo. And it goes both ways.” He turns around to pick up the gym keys from where he’d left them, and Nobara only knows him well enough to be able to tell he’s hiding his face from her. “So it’s not about you. Really, it’s not for your sake at all.”
Nobara gets up slowly, legs sore. “So you’re telling me,” she says, flatly, because that’s just what she does, “that we’re at the ‘it’s not you, it’s me,’ stage of the relationship? That’s pretty unmanly of you, Mister Righteous.”
Fushiguro snorts. “This isn’t a story about heroes, Kugisaki,” he says. “The sooner you understand that, the easier it’ll be in the long run.”
Or, when Kugisaki Nobara turns fifteen, she dyes her hair bright orange, packs her life into seven separate polka-dotted suitcases, and leaves home. It’s the easiest thing she’s ever done.

It's a task that already involves unraveling decades of mental baggage, sexual frustration, and unrequited feelings that Maki would rather ignore for the rest of her life, and a certain doctor makes it all the worse by inflicting a self-fulfilling prophecy on Maki, in the form of a stupid joke.

When Alma closed the cryochamber around her, Tamtey was expecting to sleep for a short while. Surely rescue would come promptly following the evacuation of TAP? Color Tamtey shocked when she learns she and her fellow Sarentu have been asleep, forgotten by the RDA and by the Resistance, for sixteen years, and they have been aging the entire time. Not only does Tamtey have to learn to be Na'vi, she needs to learn how to live and fight as a thirty-four year old Na'vi woman with only eighteen years of life under her belt. Wonderful.
AU in which the Sarentu slept during their 16 years in cryo, but their bodies continued to age. The story follows my personal playthrough of AFOP and sticks as close to canon as possible, with a few creative liberties and headcanons thrown in. I do not own AFOP or its characters (sadness)

Her request is equal parts presumptuous and charming; or, more accurately, presumptuous and charmed. It leaves Maki with a good opening. "What makes you think you’re more interesting than the trees, huh?"
“Maki-san!"
Nobara shrieks and tries to slap her shoulder. Tries, because Maki catches her wrist before the hit lands. “I’m plenty interesting! Come on, I’ll pose and everything! I’ve been told I’m good at posing. If not for all of this jujutsu stuff, I would’ve been a hell of a model.”
Being asked to draw someone is annoying. It’s the sort of thing that Maki would shoot down, the sort of thing she’s shot down before. She’s refused Naoya a thousand times, told Gojo she’d only draw him if he dropped Infinity long enough for her to give him a good punch, and even said no to Panda the one time he asked. But none of them had ever looked at Maki like Nobara looks at her, like Maki is the earth and she’s a circling satellite, bright and shiny and ever-curious. She wonders where Nobara learned to do that with her face. Maybe she was in her school’s theater club in junior high.

When he hits on Shepard, she lies about having a boyfriend to avoid offending him and failing her mission. The Normandy Crew isn't at all surprised that she picked Garrus for this fake relationship. In fact, no one on the ship is convinced it's fake, except Garrus and Shepard themselves.
Cue these two idiots trying to convince everyone that this is definitely fake and not at all real, and that warm, lovey feeling in their chests? Fake, too.

Shepard realizes that she might actually be running out of fight after her latest Post-Reaper reconstruction, but is retirement even an option? The question is put on hold as she and the Normandy are sent on a mission to accompany the turian Primarch’s ship to a system that can assist with a dextro resupply. By all accounts, the mission should be a milk run... except for the inside threat to the Primarch’s life and the power vacuums left behind on trashed colonies, obviously. When things go sideways from the start, all she can do is lean on her team and keep doing what she does best. Summary
Shepard smiles but something about it feels off, like she’s tired but no amount of sleep will help. The scars crisscrossing her cheek betray that, and it makes his own sting.
The look on her face is gentle, something reserved just for the low lighting of the late hours. A trill she can’t hear vibrates in his chest. It’s good to have her back, even if there’s still a dissonance lingering because he spent the last two years mourning her and coming to terms with that, only for her to come blasting back into his life, as is her style.
“I missed you, Garrus,” she says. “That's so weird to say; I feel like it’s only been a few weeks, but… It’s like I went to sleep for a while and when I woke up everything was different.”
“Yeah,” he mutters. “Guess that’s taking some getting used to.”
Shepard must relearn her place in a galaxy that spent two years moving on and living without her; Garrus finds there are three women he must relearn: the Commander, Shepard, and Jane.
