Once upon a time, the girl from nowhere fell in love with those boys. Once upon a time, they loved her too, and each other.
But they did not know then that their story was never meant to be a love story. There was never going to be a happy ending.
Once upon a time, a powerful mage promised three children the world. And then he turned them into monsters. And by the time they finally understood, it was too late.
Monsters do not get happily-ever-afters after all. But sometimes, if they are very patient, they can get revenge.

Summary
It’s amazing, really. The things you miss. The things that seem so obvious in hindsight, as soon as the right event brings all the pieces together.
Tommy isn’t stupid. He knows the score from the beginning.
But. He’s only so strong. And Evan is both hot as hell and supremely adorable. So Tommy kisses him, and asks him out, and tells himself that maybe he’s just been reading the signs wrong. Maybe Evan and Eddie really are just…very…close friends.
He reminds himself of that when Evan panics on their first date and goes full straight bro when Eddie interrupts them. He reminds himself again when Evan invites him to be his date to a wedding.
He’s imagining things. They’re friends—or maybe Evan has a crush—but that’s fine. Evan asked Tommy out. So Eddie is…a nonissue.
Tommy tells himself that right up until he can’t anymore.

Honestly, Buck hadn’t. Wondered. Or at least hadn’t thought so. Oh, he’s noticed that Eddie is hot. He’s known that since the day they met, accepted it as an objective fact.
Eddie is hot.
But it wasn’t until that moment in the club that the world shifted a little bit more under his feet—a common occurrence since he realized kissing men was on the table—and years of memories recontextualized themselves at once.

The way his skin flushed when Eddie’s gaze drifted back to them on the dance floor—

It’s not like Eddie doesn’t know that his boyfriend is attractive. He’s seen women and men alike check him out, eyes drifting over the tattoos that creep up his chest, peeking past the collar of his many faded band t-shirts, lingering on his biceps on the way back down, the way his thighs push the stretch of his skinny jeans almost to their breaking point. He’s seen teenagers giggle as they pass, cheeks flushed red and eyes averted, men his age flick their eyes over Buck appreciatively, women who could be his abuela’s friends nudge their companions and whisper, eyes bright.
