Summary
Steve Rogers—no longer beholden to the title of "Captain America" and now known just to those who can follow shadows as a nomad—has long been looking for satisfaction and when he finally comes to the conclusion that perhaps his enhanced wants and needs can't be satiated by regular humans, he starts to seek something more substantial. Something beyond this realm that can only be reached by a chalk pentagram drawn on the floor of an abandoned safehouse, candles burning in the low light, and an ancient chant rolling off his tongue. What can he say? He's desperate.
Now, enter Bucky Barnes, a demon intrigued by this mortal's stubborn confidence, insisting that he's too much for human lovers, and demanding to have his way with a demon to satisfy himself. Bucky will follow the invitation Steve gives him and see about that—can he really take what he's asking for?

James was standing when Steve turned around. His backpack hung from his left shoulder. Somehow, he’d managed to buckle the strap across his chest. He looked at Steve, his gaze simultaneously expectant and far away. Guarded. Waiting. For what, Steve didn’t think he wanted to know.
“Are you in trouble?” Steve asked again.
His voice was quiet, barely there. “No.”
Steve looked at him. At the dark bags beneath his eyes, at his dirty hair, the sweatshirt he’d been wearing since Steve had first seen him. There was a hole in the left cuff.
It was none of his business.
“Is there anyone I can call for you? Is anyone looking for you? There are phones you can use.”
“No. I’m—” He stopped and looked at the door. His eyebrows furrowed. “I’m looking.”
“Looking for what?” If Steve could help in any way, he would.
James looked at him again. It was the first time he’d fully met Steve’s gaze. “Myself.”

Steve leaves him alone. He looks like a guy who deserves some peace and quiet.
He does find out the stranger's name is Bucky.
Finds out what he likes to drink.
And little by little, conversation happens. Connection happens.Until one day a cock-flock of dudebros comes in (i made up cock-flock, but really, is that not their collective term) and the heckling goes up to eleven once they’re good and drunk. Bucky gets asked to take it outside. Steve will have none of that, thankyouverymuch.
