Phainon’s phone buzzed.
He glanced at the screen. Blinked. Sat up straighter.
“Uh oh,” he said.
Mydei didn’t look up. “What did you do?”
“Nothing.”
He turned the screen around.
Aglaea:
Good morning, Phainon.
Would you and Mydei be available to babysit my nieces? I apologize for the short notice, but it’d just be today until Sunday morning. No overnight stay unless you're comfortable. No one else is free and you’re the only ones I somewhat trust to keep all three of them alive and entertained for more than five minutes.“Today?” Mydei asked, setting down his fork. “The three of them?”
“Yeah,” Phainon said, tapping the screen. “Trianne, Trinnon, and Tribbie.”
“…And she wants us to watch them?”
“They’re six. How hard could it be?”
Mydei stared at him.

Summary
Phainon had exactly three seconds to process the bang, hiss, and gush before water exploded from the corner of his bedroom ceiling. His bed drowned, all his clothes were soaked, and everything on his desk was ruined in only a matter of seconds. By the time he’d gotten towels, the corner of his room was already too far gone.
Mydei, standing in the hallway in his pajamas, having just woken up, said the most helpful thing he could think of.
“…Huh.”
Phainon flung a soaked hoodie out of the doorway. “I think the ceiling just gave me a baptism.”
“Guess you needed it.”

Summary
Phainon was just trying to doomscroll in peace.
It was a normal Thursday night. He was wrapped in a blanket on the couch, phone in hand, thumbing through social media while the TV played some forgettable romcom in the background. The main character had already made three catastrophically stupid decisions, and by the fourth, Phainon was actively rooting for her downfall. It's safe to say he wasn’t really watching anymore.
Then, mid scroll, something caught his eye.
“Mydei!” he shouted. “We have a date this Saturday!”
