Summary

A prized pig brandied about to the highest bidder. My eyes cast low as my dread is replaced by fire.
“Brasidas, my niece’s hand for your victories. You’ll wed in Gamelion, Hera’s moon. Many blessings.”
I can’t look up. I can’t face it.
The fire goes cold, barely knowing warmth within my chest.
Brasidas doesn’t touch me, perhaps knowing that I’d snap his wrist if he tried.

Grantaire once swore that he'd never set foot on the shore so long as there was a drop of ocean left to swim in, but when his fellow selkies start going missing, he sets aside his own distaste for the people of the land in order to come up and find out what's happened to them. He doesn't account for meeting Enjolras, however, or his passionate group of friends who are very concerned about the dwindling population of the local "seals", and the poaching that they're sure is taking place. When Enjolras seizes upon Grantaire's pelt as his prime piece of evidence, Grantaire has to figure out how to get it back before it's too late, and he ends up trapped on land forever.

Enjolras has spent pretty much the entire bus ride to the Musain trying to predict how this will go, but the thing that surprises him isn't that Combeferre isn't the first to notice, or that Joly doesn't start spouting something about infant mortality rates and immediately demand that everybody bathe in Purell. No, what startles Enjolras the most is that he manages approximately half a step through the door into the back room where they all meet before Grantaire rattles his glass down on the table in the back that he's taken for his own and drawls, "Is there something you forgot to tell us, Apollo?"
That silences the room, predictably enough. Everyone breaks off their conversations and swivels to stare at him. At him, and at the baby carrier that he's got hooked over one arm.
