“I’ve had Vaughn collect them all back, sir,” Rex continued, holding onto her eyes to show her his truth. “Before we were grabbed. And these mercs seemed to know when you were alone. I’m just surprised they haven’t dumped me in the marsh when they had the chance.”
She didn’t look happy that he was talking so callously about the general stank of death, but she didn’t comment on it. He couldn’t bring himself to care that much when the buzz of their firepower still rang in his ears.
“So, I was tagged,” Ahsoka hummed. “And you were lucky enough to be dragged in here with me.”
He couldn’t quite help the twitch of his dry smile from growing. “Probably thought they needed the bonus if all goes south.”

Rex leaned toward Cody, swallowing hard. “…I’m starting to think this isn’t a sanctioned mission, certainly not by General Kenobi."
Cody appeared pale now, his gold-flecked brown eyes wide and his gloved hands clenched tightly at his sides, as if bracing for a blow. “You don’t say.”
