“I WILL PULL THIS VAN OVER AND DON’T THINK I WON’T!” Brian shouted, giving a look so severe into the rearview mirror that Geoff was surprised it wasn’t melting. “Jesus Christ, how old are you guys? Get off each other or so help me God I will come back there.”
“You can’t come back here when you’re driving,” Frank pointed out, but he extricated his arm from where it was around Mikey’s neck and sat back in his seat.
“It’s fine, guys, we’ll figure it out,” Brian said encouragingly. “We can just talk! That’s fun, right?”
No one spoke but Geoff heard Frank groan from the backseat. “How about this,” Brian started. “We make it a contest. We each tell a story or two and whoever tells the best one wins. The losers have to buy him drinks or something.”
“How are we gonna decide the winner?” Mikey asked. “Pretty sure some people are just going to vote for themselves no matter what.” He said pointedly, throwing a look over his shoulder. Frank made a disdainful noise.
“I can be a team player, bitch.”

The sound of the opposite door opening is deafening in the quiet. No one has oiled the hinges since Gerard left, and it shows in the way that they protest louder than they used to as it swings just wide enough to let a body inside, and then shriek even louder when it’s pulled shut.
Gerard’s heart has decided that it’s a good time to fall into a fit of hysteria. He swallows, nearly holding his breath.
The voice to his right side is hushed. “And the Holy Spirit,” it says.
