Metropolis has been abjectly miserable for the past two years, no one for Lena to turn to with her problems or anxieties. The closest thing she’s had to a friend has been her favorite Chinese place’s delivery drivers.
Lex had been arrested, Sam had left, and Jack had died all in the course of one really, really shitty year, and the year that’s followed has been exponentially more shitty. Lena’s glad it’s almost over, and that she gets to forcibly eject it from her life like a floppy disk carrying a PC-killing virus with her best friend’s help in a foreign country. Even if it’s a rainy, grey Christmas and New Year's in London.

“It’s not that impressive,” Kara mutters sulkily, arms crossed. “Don’t look so shocked.”
Linda looks between them—up into Kara’s pinched, surly features, and Alex’s beet-red gape—and then between her legs. “Well, I think it is. But, you’re entitled to your own opinion,” she shrugs, pushing the head down with a finger and watching it bob back towards her stomach. “But, it always hurts when I’m with Lena. I told her it hurt, that she was making it hurt. And then she said she was sorry, and that she could help, if I wanted.”
The silence that follows draws out interminably long—long enough that Linda starts humming It’s A Small World under her breath while she lets it flop up and down against her stomach in tune.
Eventually, Kara collects herself enough to cry, “What?” and Alex starts laughing so hard she doubles over in tears.
Or, alternatively:
The one where Red Daughter, alias Linda, is justifiably, albeit overbearingly, smug; Lena just can’t seem to help herself; and Kara just about has a seething, jealousy-induced aneurysm trying to process it all.

“Hmm?” Lena hummed, raising an eyebrow curiously as she tucked the duvet in around Kara’s heavy-limbed form, “Who gets to touch me like what?”
Kara pursed her lips, looking into the far corner of her room as she muttered darkly, “Andrea…”
Lena froze for a painful beat, and Kara was suddenly acutely aware of how her eardrums throbbed with the remnant bass of the club. Lena slowly pulled away standing up to her full height as she peered down at Kara, her expression inscrutable.
“Because she asked, because she showed interest.” Lena said eventually, the words clipped and sharp. “You’ve never even tried to touch me like that. Never given any indication that you would want to…”

“Have there been others?” Bellatrix repeats and Rita swallows, their proximity making it hard to think properly. Her only point of view being the woman in front of her. Rita glances down, first at her lips—then lower, and lower still.
“I–” Rita says, looking back up into Bellatrix’s eyes. “Yes.”
Something dark flashes in Bellatrix’s gaze and Rita is addicted to it, always has been. Bellatrix has always been jealous, even though she had been the one who married someone else in the end.

Eula scoffed and pointed her hoity-toity nose directly towards the sky. "Such as? There is very little you can do to stop me from leaving." Her arms were tightly folded in front of her as she spoke, guarding herself from Jean's uncharacteristic casual mood, obviously brought on by the festival.
Jean bounced triumphantly onto her toes, with a wide grin and a twinkle in her eye. "I wish to give you a Windblume, as per the custom. I thought it would be a nice gesture—bury the hatchet, so to speak—and you're the only one who would appreciate these."

“Yeah, well, I got bored,” Clorinde mumbles. “Figured I’d come bother you.”
“How presumptuous,” Navia laughs quietly, nuzzling the side of her face into Clorinde’s. “You could never bother me, ma lune.”
Clorinde hates the way the pet name still makes her heart skip several beats in her chest.
But she’s tipsy, and it’s nearing midnight, and she figures she can let go for just a bit. She leans into Navia, hands comes up hesitantly, not sure where to put them–
“Touch me already,” Navia whispers into her ear, smirk evident in her voice. “I’m not made of glass, you won’t break me.”

Outside, it has started raining, the rain broadening from a drizzle to a storm in a matter of seconds, the sky going dark. He clears his throat. "That is not all, I'm afraid. I believe the defendant and you are familiar with each other."
Clorinde's lips are already forming her name.
"Navia is being prosecuted for conspiring to traffick Sinthe. She has chosen to prove her innocence in a duel."
A year after Clorinde kills Navia's father in a duel, she is poised to do the same to Navia.
