That much was known, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise when Jiang Fengmian proudly introduced him or even more proudly showed him off, praising him to the high heavens.
What did come as a surprise was how little he praised his own son standing beside him, despite them being only a few days apart in age. It was as if Jiang Fengmian had simply forgotten that such a creature existed, much less that he had himself contributed to its spawning, and the constant looks of hope – invariably crushed – the child sent him made it clear that the present situation had been going on for some time.

He had been Qiu Qing, Jin Qing, Sheng Qing, Hua Qing, Lai Qing and one particular time, he had even been Feng Qing. He has had countless different origins and lives, countless mothers and fathers and a myriad of sisters and brothers and yet, in any life of his, Feng Xin would find him and kill him. Sometimes, he would be kind, gentle as if scared that Mu Qing’s soul would not survive the kill ; mostly, he was violent.
Cursed to remember his previous incarnations and to always end up killed at the hands of Feng Xin who was his lover in his first life (or at least the first one he remembers), Mu Qing tries to hope for the best. Mostly, he just lets his soul be anchored to Feng Xin's existence.

“Because we’re friends.”
The word friend was uttered with such sincerity that it made Mu Qing want to throw something. Instead, he sat up, coughing into his hand. The pause in the array must have been long enough that Feng Xin replied softly, and with obvious hesitation.
“I care. I’m sorry that I’m the cause of this. Let me make it right.”
Mu Qing inhaled a shaky breath, wiping his hands on a towel set nearby. “Just leave me alone,” he said before he could stop himself. He then cut the array and was once again alone.

“You can’t help! Unless—” Feng Xin’s eyes went wide. “Do you l- love him?”
Pei Ming waved his hand vaguely in a what does that have to do with anything gesture. “I don’t see anyone else willing to try,” he raised a meaningful brow towards Feng Xin. “Besides, there still hasn’t been a curse that a little bit of ol’ Pei tongue couldn’t fi—”
Feng Xin’s punch shut him up.
