Summary
CyberLife has activated a new Connor model and sent it to replace a rogue deviant that was gunned down during the SWAT raid in Jericho. It has been given one singular task: to neutralize the leader of the deviants at all costs. Equipped with the emotionally charged memories of its predecessor, it wrestles with seeds of self-doubt and what it should ultimately do: obey its masters and accomplish its mission, or exercise free-will and forge a different path.

Connor 54 had just barely been activated, but had already begun to re-live traumatic moments as if it had personally experienced them. Getting shot. Stabbed. Free-falling from the top of a high-rise building. Those memories triggered physiological responses, tremors, spiking stress levels. It was unable to study them with cold indifference and they made it wonder...

Connor remained calm. “Do you know why you were brought here?”
The suspect pursed his lips, remaining perfectly still.
“Homicide,” Connor continued. He laid a photo of the victim in front of him. The victim lay lifeless on the ground, vacant eyes staring up, angry purple welts around his throat. His bottom lip was split, nose broken to the point of being unrecognizable. Dried blood caked his lips and chin.
“A human.” Connor continued. “He was found strangled. There were signs of a struggle and Thirium was found on his knuckles. Thirium traced back to you.”

Oh. Okay. A laugh escapes from Astarion in a wild scoff. He’s talking to a fucking door — he’s going insane, that’s what this is. And you know what, that’s to be expected. This is probably around the time that any sane person in solitary confinement would start to go mad, he reasons, so it really is okay if he just plays along with the delusion.
