“Revenge, love...people will kill for many things,” Susato mused.
“The way I see it, the motivation has to be strong enough to shift the killer’s sense of reasoning. Revenge, love, even survival—all of those things impede reasoning by providing a more important thing for the mind to focus on,” Herlock said.
“But love—or physical pleasure...” It felt strange to say those words aloud, even when it wasn’t in her mother tongue. “Those hardly compare to instincts like revenge or survival.”
“Oh-ho-ho! Eager to return to this point, are you?” Sholmes didn’t have his pipe in his hand at the moment, and his hand went to his jaw, stroking his non-existent beard. Despite his clean-shaven face, something about him seemed...overwhelmingly masculine. “Once again, your inexperience shows.”
(Sholmes makes an assertion. Susato wonders if he can prove it.)
