Normally, well whatever passes for normal in the life of a hero,
Batman would catch his Robin, always. Even as they got older, Batman would always cover Nightwing.When they fight alone, Superman would catch Robin, and later Nightwing, and at the odd Spyral occasion Grayson-Agent37.
For the first time in years, during a crisis involving both the JLA and the Titans, Superman catches Nightwing, and Batman/Bruce bears witness.
Dude is too preceptive for anyone's own good.Bruce would of course obsess over it later, and demand answers.

So, maybe that was how he ended up on the bathroom floor. Because he was trying to convince himself that he wasn’t alone. But he was. It was almost worse than when he was pinned under the ladder truck. That pain had been temporary, fixed with surgery, physical therapy, and Buck’s never-say-die attitude. But this pain didn’t have an easy fix. This pain burrowed itself under his skin and clawed at his insides, making him hurt in ways he didn’t think possible.
