Summary
When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw of this strange new place was you. Not the pastel sky, nor the water I could hear breaking against the shore, but you: your golden eyes, softened by the years and nestled in wrinkles that seemed chiseled from the fine stone of your visage; your hair, silver streaks at your temples, cascading waves drawn back with a simple tie; and your mouth, your smiling mouth, the corners only barely daring to lift as you stared back at me.
In Aubade, they’re reunited. Slowly, softly, they try again.

“This will be a lovely necklace, don’t you think?” The key swings slightly in the air, glimmering. “I should wear it around my neck all day, let it hang in the open front of my robes, so all of the island knows you’re mine.” Samot stares up at him, lips slightly parted, as Samothes clasps the chain and the key around his neck.
Samothes locks Samot in a chastity belt for their day out in Aubade, and keeps him busy once they get home.

Red Jack and Throndir adjust to their life together in the Rhizome.

Throndir’s soft eyes widen slightly, and Ephrim holds his breath. Then Throndir nods, and Ephrim stands, holding Throndir’s gaze even after releasing his hands, before he turns and walks over to his armoire.
Throndir shows up outside Ephrim's door at the Last University.

Summary
Samot knows what’s coming. He’s been relearning the cartography of his body, knows the ravine of morning glory along the dip of his waist, the purple flowers half-open in the hazy afternoon light. He pauses, waits, then speaks. “You,” Samot clears his throat, tries again, “you can touch them, if you want.”
Or, Samot arrives in Aubade, hurt and aching and longing. This time, they're taking it slowly.

Neither sleep. Neither really did before, nor need to now, and so time moves not in days and nights or months and years but in hammer strokes and poison drops, asynchronous heartbeats for two beyond the reaches of conventional death.
