Summary
Doc and Cleo weren't compatible under normal circumstances. They liked each other plenty, they got along even better, but with so many other Hermits on the server, they simply weren't each other's first picks as partners. They both liked to be in control. They were parallel lines that couldn't intersect.
Under normal circumstances.
But if you go out to the edge of infinity, even parallel lines will touch and even Doc and Cleo can, under enough strain, end up spending the night together.
Doc had jokingly started to refer to these incidents as "emergencies" and it had stuck. It was all too fun to say in front of others without letting them in on the secret. They just had plans to resolve an emergency that night, they’d say.
OR: Cleo is upset and Doc is a good friend. So he dunks her in powdered snow until she can't afford to care.

Without another word, Astarion leaned over, gripping your shoulder to steady you as his head dipped out of sight. His skin had a chill to it, and the tickle of his hair against your neck sent a pleasant sensation running down your spine. He hovered for a moment, lips only just grazing your skin. Every muscle in your body was tensed.
