“V,” he began, trying to remember what he’d read in the books he’d borrowed from Kotal’s library. “Y. K. R. A.” He blinked. “Vykra?”
“What does that mean?” Hanzo questioned, his eyes trained on the knife. Sharp thing’s were a weird siren song to Hanzo, but as long as he just looked and didn’t touch that was fine.
“No idea.” Kuai tried to think back. Vykra? It didn’t sound like a word he’d come across in his research, the language of the ancient cryomancers was a lot more akin to Mandarin than anything else, and this didn’t fit that description. “It’s not a word I’ve ever come across. Maybe a name? This is clearly a temple, so I suppose it could be the name of a God or Goddess?”
“Maybe the knife has something to do with it.” Hanzo reached for the knife, and Kuai felt his heart jump to his throat.
“Wait-“
He was too late. Hanzo’s hand grabbed the knife and took it off the stand.
And the next thing Kuai knew, he was falling.

She had never seen his tattoo, he was sure of that, but she was related to the one person who had and knew the name on it.
“Jonathan told you?” He asked in a horrified tone, not wanting to really convey how betrayed that idea made him feel.
“Nope,” Jin cut in, “but you just did.”

Kuai Liang swung his arms, ready to continue fighting, when something strange caught his attention. A gaze, sharp and attentive, seemed to pierce the back of his head. He turned and locked eyes with the commander. His heart beat faster. Scorpion! He clenched his fists and defiantly met the golden-brown eyes of his enemy. He wouldn’t go down easily. However, Scorpion simply waved a commanding hand, and the Fire Nation soldiers began to retreat.
“We’ve already got the one we need,” the wind carried the words to him. “The main objective is complete.”
Kuai Liang frowned, but he needed to tend to the wounded. He knelt beside Tomas, helping him up, and noticed a wound on his side. Water flowed from his hands, pulsing blue, healing the injury. The fighting comrades around them stopped, confused, watching the retreating enemy soldiers.
“Commander Hasashi, what about that bender? Doesn’t he meet the criteria too?”
“One is enough,” the voice carried a crooked smirk. “He’ll explain all the secrets to us.”
At that moment, as he watched the retreating soldiers, Kuai Liang didn’t know that that day marked the beginning of the end. For the Fire Nation had captured Bi-Han.

Everything about them happened in seconds. Their first meeting was quick, with Tony landing next to the Captain, each man giving a curt nod and name in greeting. Their argument on the hellicarrier took mere seconds to escalate. Until Steve was goading Tony into putting on the suit and going a few rounds and Tony not so subtly reminding Steve that he wasn’t afraid to hit an old man.
It was only seconds of staring at Tony on that New York City Street, his arc reactor dark, no rise and fall of his chest, for Steve to know that inside the tin can, was a good man.
Then Ultron happened, and it took seconds for their world to change, seconds for Steve to throw his shield at Tony and for the billionaire to send a repulsor blast back. They went from laughing and relaxing to standing on an edge thousands of feet above solid ground.
And now…now everything’s changed. And all it took was a combination of seconds; of decisions made, actions performed and words spoken that they couldn’t get back.
Just a few ticks of the clock for their world to shatter.It’ll take more than that to make things right.
